The purpose of this tournament is for ALL players to have FUN. Displays of poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. Yelling at other players or referees will result in loss of point or serve. Continued abusive behavior will result in disqualification.


Team
-This is a 4’s coed tournament, meaning there must be four players on the court playing at all times. This includes at least one female on the court at all times.
-Teams may consist of up to six players.
-Tournament Directors may allow teams to play with less than four, however the games will not count toward the playoffs.
-Only the players that are registered by the date on the flyer will play in the tournament.

Pregame
-Once the match has ended on your designated court and the players are off the court you will have 5 minutes to warm up before the next match begins.
-If a team is ready to play at the end of five minutes from the end of the previous match and the other team is not present or ready to play, one point is deducted for each minute until 10 minutes is reached. The match is then forfeited with a score of XX to 0.

Refereeing
-On the schedule sheet for matches, there will be a schedule for when your team will ref a match.
-If there is a questionable call during the match that neither side can agree on the referee will make the decision to re-do the point.
-Teams should officiate with a referee and a scorekeeper. All judgment calls by the referee are FINAL.
-Although referees are there to call faults, all players should call their own to be courteous to the game and your opponent.

Service
-When serving the ball, you must be behind the lines. If you cross the line while serving that is a fault, and the other team will get a point.
-You can land anywhere inside the court if you have served the ball, and it is headed towards the other team.
-Both underhand and overhand serves are allowed. The same player continues serving until their team loses a point.
-Serving team players may not block the view of the receiving team.

Cap
-During pool play games and playoff games there will be a cap.
-Games will be played to 21 with a cap at 25.
-Our cap for the tournament is 25 for pool play and playoffs. There will be no cap for the finals.

Scoring
-For our tournament we use rally scoring, meaning a point is scored for one team on every rally, regardless of who serves. Points are scored by hitting the ball onto your opponent’s side and having it hit the ground in bounds. Points can also be scored if your opponent hits the ball out of bounds or commits a violation.

During Play
-All players should call their own faults referee will also be making those calls.
-Ball is in if it is between the antennas completely. Breaking the plane is out. If a ball goes outside of the antennas/court and is playable the player must bring the ball outside of the antenna and onto their side of the court to keep the play alive.
-If anything comes on to the court and interrupts play, REPLAY.
-In beach volleyball there are no open hand tips AKA Dinks. You must use a knuckle, an attacking swing that includes rolls, cut shots etc.
-Open hand passing is allowed on a hard driven ball. It is not allowed on serve receive. Open hand passing is allowed on any first ball as well, so long as it is clean as a normal set.
-You may open hand push the ball over the net to the opposing team as long as it is clean like a normal set and your shoulders are square to the target, you are pushing it to.
-In no circumstance are you allowed to touch the net that is a foul and will result in a point to the opposing team.
-Contact under net and going under the net is okay if you do not interfere with the play of the ball.
-Jousts at the nets do not constitute a foul. Simultaneous contact- Team opposite where the ball goes out, commits the foul.

Setting
-Hand sets must be clean. Referees’ judgment. Offensive sets must be at 12 and 6 o’clock positions from setter. Set must be perpendicular to the setter’s shoulders either forward or backward.
-Like previously stated in the during play column you may set the ball over so long as you follow these above rules.
-You cannot hold the ball for more than the normal allotted time and the setter cannot double while setting the ball.
-The ball must stay above the chin with a quick release while setting.

Blocking
-In blocking, the player may place his/her hands and arms beyond the net provided that his/her action does not interfere with the opponent's play. Thus, it is not permitted to touch the ball beyond the net until the opponent has executed an attack-hit.
-The first hit after the block may be executed by any player, including the one who has touched the ball at the block.
-The block will not count as a hit and the team will still have three touches to get the ball over the net.

Blocking faults
-The blocker touches the ball in the opponent's space either before or simultaneously with the opponent's attack-hit (rule above).
-A player blocks the ball in the opponent's space from outside the antenna.
-A player blocks the opponent's service.
-The ball is sent "out" off the block.

Subbing
-Teams are allowed up to 6 players which means you can have up to 2 subs.
-Players are allowed to sub in and out up to 4 times per match while keeping at least 1 female on the court for the entirety of the tournament.
-Subs must be registered before the deadline shown on the flyer along with the rest of their team.
-Subs must happen under the discrepancy of the referee; referees must keep track of how many times each team subs throughout the game to avoid controversy.
